vi. Ranks
i.
Here on Vainglory, the rank of a character determines what a character has upon creation, as well as providing discounts towards learning additional elements and specialties for higher ranked characters. But nothing is outright blocked off, nor rendered impossible for lower ranked characters, it simply takes a little extra effort to achieve.
ii.
There are a total of 6 ranks on Vainglory, and the rank that the character starts at will determine what bonuses they get upon approval. The starting bonuses can be found below, but do keep in mind that B, A and S-rank characters are unable to be created unless there are special events happening. Check out the Current Events and maybe you will be allowed to create a high ranked character

There are 3 types of ranks here on Vainglory. Each type of rank requires different feats to rank up, but each also provides their own bonuses and penalties depending on which system your character falls under. These 3 rank types are Village, Unaffiliated, and Criminal, and the bonuses/penalties that the character receives depending on their rank and category can be found below.
Village Ranks
E-rank = Academy Student. Academy Students are shinobi still undergoing the most basic of training, they are unable to do missions of any rank and are forbidden from leaving the village entirely.
D-rank = Genin. Genin gain no Bonuses, and due to their low rank are unable to do missions above C-rank unless accompanied by someone of Chuunin rank or higher. They are able to leave the village, but only during missions and they must be accompanied by a shinobi of Chuunin rank or higher while out.
C-rank = Chuunin. Chuunin are still relatively low ranked in the shinobi hierarchy, but they have at least shown enough promise and strength to be granted command of Genin squads during missions. They gain a 10% exp discount that rounds down when within the walls of their village, and are able to take missions up to B-rank solo. They may choose to undertake A-rank missions, but they must be either accompanied by a Jounin or a group of 3 Chuunin. They are also allowed to leave the village whenever they wish
B-rank = Jounin. Jounin are where the true elite of a villages shinobi corps start show themselves, shinobi that have proven themselves to be both trustworthy and powerful enough to handle their own in almost any circumstances. They gain a 15% exp discount while within the walls of their village, and are able to take A-rank missions solo. S-rank missions may be undertaken by a group of 3 Jounin. Jounin are able to take on and train squads of Genin, and as an added incentive Jounin that choose to undertake the daunting task of training a squad will gain 50% more Ryo when doing missions with their appointed team.
A-rank = Elite Jounin. Elite Jounin are the most powerful and well respected shinobi that a village can possess. These are shinobi that have frequently proven both their immense strength and undying loyalty to their village. They gain a 20% exp discount that rounds down while within the walls of their village and are able to undertake any rank of missions solo. Much like Jounin, Elite Jounin are able to become the leaders of a Genin squad, but due to their higher levels of strength are given even more incentive to do so, being paid 100% more ryo when leading their squad on missions.
S-rank = Kage. The Kage are the supreme leaders of the shinobi villages, holding absolute power over the entirety of the shinobi forces in their respective nations. The Kage of a village is generally acknowledged to be its most experienced and powerful shinobi, and they are the ones that oversee everything that happens within their village, from sending shinobi on missions to making the hardest of choices for the greater good of the village as a whole. They gain a 25% exp discount while within the walls of their village, and for the most part are free to do whatever they wish within their territory. Kage have complete control over their villages funding, and as such are free to draw from the villages treasury whenever they wish.
Unaffiliated Ranks
E-rank Unaffiliated shinobi are entirely unknown, having done absolutely nothing of note and more often than not possessing very little in the way of formal training and having very little skill. Unlike village shinobi unaffiliated shinobi of any rank can take missions of any rank.
D-rank Unaffiliated shinobi are very similar to E-ranks, as they too possess very little in the way of skill and are mostly unknown to the world at large. In the end the only real difference between the two ranks is the letter.
C-rank is where Unaffiliated shinobi start to gain fame, tales of their skills and deeds having reached the ears of certain employers and impressing them. Unaffiliated shinobi of this rank will gain an extra 25% ryo when they complete missions of C-rank and below.
B-rank Unaffiliated shinobi are much more well known than their C-rank counterparts, the tales of both their deeds and their prowess having reached many more ears. This can be considered both a good and a bad thing, as potential employers will give them 50% more ryo upon completing B-rank and lower missions… but their main specialty are known to all B-rank and higher shinobi, provided of course that said shinobi manages to learn the characters name if they meet.
A-rank Unaffiliated Shinobi are considered to be equal in prowess to the Elite Jounin of a village, and as such they possess a great deal more fame and influence than their B-rank fellows. Potential employers are willing to pay even more for shinobi of this calbre, resulting in them gaining 75% more ryo upon completion of missions of A-rank and below. This fame can be quite the downside though, as both their names and skill sets will have become quite widespread. All shinobi of C-rank and higher will know both the rank and main specialty of the character if they learn their names.
S-rank Unaffiliated shinobi are the absolute pinnacle of what a mercenary can become, their name alone being enough to send shivers down the spines of both evildoers and heroes alike. Potential employers are willing to do absolutely anything to get shinobi of this rank to work for them, resulting in them earning 100% more ryo when they complete missions of any rank. Their fame is quite detrimental though, as any shinobi of D-rank or higher will know both the main and secondary specialty of the character if they learn their name.
Criminal Ranks
E-rank criminals are nothing more than petty thieves and conmen. They can take missions of any rank.
D-rank criminals are not much more impressive than E-rank criminals, possessing little in the way of skill. They gain 15% extra ryo when completing missions of any rank.
C-rank criminals have proven that they're strong enough to take what they please and smart enough to live to tell the tale. They gain 30% extra ryo when completing missions of any rank. Should a B-rank or higher shinobi learn their name, they will be able to recognize the character as a criminal.
B-rank criminals are where Missing-nin start to shine. Tales of their infamy and misdeeds have reached the ears of many, but their primary specialty is known to all B-rank and higher shinobi, provided that they can learn the criminal's name. They receive 60% extra ryo when completing missions of any rank.
A-rank criminals are known and feared across the land. They receive 85% extra ryo when completing missions of any rank, but any C-rank or higher ninja who learns their name will be able to tell their primary specialty and rank.
S-rank criminals are legendary in their infamy, only rivaled in skill by the kage themselves. They receive double ryo when completing missions of any rank, but their name, primary, and secondary specialties will be known to all shinobi D rank or above.
Ranking Up
i.
Rankups more determine starting bonuses than they actually affect gameplay, but if you ever want to rank up your character, the following requirements must be met. Missions do not stack across rankups. It is also possible to progress to higher ranks by killing someone of the rank you wish to progress to (I.E., a genin being promoted to chuunin after killing a C-rank missingnin).
Academy Student/E-Rank promotion requirements: Learn 4 E-rank jutsu and take a 1,000 word exam proctored by village chuunin or higher. NPCs will be provided by staff in the event that there are no player characters available.
Genin/D-Rank promotion requirements: 7 D-rank missions, 5 C-rank missions
Chunin/C-Rank promotion requirements: 5 B-rank missions, 5 A-rank missions, 1 S-rank mission
Special Jounin/B-Rank promotion requirements: 7 B-rank missions, 7 A-rank missions, 3 S-rank missions
ii.
In order to be promoted to S-rank, you must receive kage permission and be branded as such through IC actions, such as defeating bijuu, starting a village, or killing high ranking player characters.
