Village Lore Chusekigakure Mountain Country Founding Clans: Akimichi, Kaguya, Uchiha, Yuki Population: 16,000 Economy: Fair Climate: With an elevation of 1,200 meters, Chusekigakure is very cold - the summer temperatures average at 13 degrees Celsius while the winters plummet to -4. On average, this village receives 127 cm of precipitation per year. This village receives approximately 90 cm of snow annually. History: Chusekigakure was founded 43 years ago, four years after the founding of the first ninja village, Sakyugakure. It originally started as an alliance between the Kaguya and Uchiha clans, but the local Yuki and Akimichi proved to be invaluable during a three-year famine that wiped out roughly one in every four clan members. The village was built into the cliffside of a tall mountain after receiving permission from Mountain Country's daimyo, and the first Yamakage, a Kaguya possessing the shikotsumyaku, was elected unanimously for his battle prowess and charisma. Though smaller than the other villages, Chusekigakure has a relatively stable and self sustaining economy- a lot of food is foraged and hunted in the surrounding wilderness, and their pelts sold in local civilian villages. Around five years ago, after the sudden death of the second Yamakage (an Uchiha), a civil war took place. The Uchiha and the Yuki supported a Yuki clan candidate, while the Kaguya and Akimichi supported another Kaguya candidate. Eventually, the Uchiha and Yuki won through a battle of attrition. Tensions are still uneasy between the existing clans today. Player Character Kages: N/A Numachigakure Reed Country Founding Clans: Aburame, Inuzuka, Nara, Senju Population: 79,000 Economy: Deficient Climate: Located in a mangrove swamp, the summer temperatures of Numachigakure average at 30 degrees Celsius. The winters measure in at around 18 degrees. On average, this village receives 150 cm of rain per year, much of it coming from violent thunderstorms. History: The Senju and Aburame clans have always gotten along- so when word traveled of a new ninja village opening up in Sand Country, they were the first to propose the idea to the local clans in the marsh area. The Nara joined the alliance a few months later, leading to the construction of the world's second ninja village 46 years ago. The clans had elected an Aburame woman to be the first Ashikage. After being driven out of an island that was annexed by the natives of Sea Country, the Inuzuka ended up joining Numachigakure around 7 years after its founding. In spite of the powerful ninja who reside in the mangrove swamps of Marsh Country, it has a poor economy - Tree Country provided better lumber than their home, and the market in the west was still dominated largely by the rivaling clans of Sea Country. Currently, Numachigakure is recovering from a costly war with Shimagakure that was fought over market resources and jobs eleven years ago. Player Character Kages: N/A Sakyugakure Sun Country Founding Clans: Chinoike, Hyuuga, Kurama, Sarutobi Population: 131,000 Economy: Strong Climate: Sakyugakure has an arid, desert climate - mountains to the east block nearly all rainfall. The average yearly temperature is 33 degrees Celsius in the daytime and 13 degrees at night, with little variation. Receiving less than 3 cm rainfall a year, the villagers use primarily rivers and the oasis to provide water. History: After a brutal war between the rival Chinoike and Kurama clans, the two had come to an uneasy alliance with the threat of a tailed beast running rampant through their desert home. The two had ended up uniting with the Hyuuga and Sarutobi clans, and their combined might was enough to drive it away. Afterwards, in order to better defend themselves against such powerful forces, the clans sent a representative to the Sand Country daimyo to propose a new idea: a ninja village. They got the approval exactly 47 years ago, and construction started immediately. Though initially uneasy, the clans had grown to trust each other more and more over the years. The first kage, a Chinoike, held office for 26 years before retiring. The second Taiyokage was clanless, but held a peerless skill in fuuinjutsu that made them a candidate for succession. He was killed in action after holding office for twenty years. They trade primarily gold, spices, and salt with other countries, and their ninja services are an invaluable part of their market. They currently boast the strongest economy out of all four ninja villages. Player Character Kages: 3rd Taiyokage: Sayaka Chinoike Shimagakure Sea Country Founding Clans: Hoshigaki, Hozuki, Uzumaki, Yamanaka Population: 164,000 Economy: Fair Climate: Shimagakure rests on a tropical island- temperatures vary from around 22 degrees a day to 24 degrees a day with little variation - the temperature drops about five degrees at night. The island as a whole receives around 150 cm of rainfall a year. History: Sea Country has a long history of violence between its native clans - the Hoshigaki in the south, Hozuki to the east, the Uzumaki to the west, and the Yamanaka to the north. Around 39 years ago, the Hoshigaki clan head led a long and violent campaign to annex all of Sea Country's clans under one banner- it began with the expulsion of the Inuzuka, and two years later the Hozuki and Yamanaka had fallen to them. With all three clans surrounding them, the Uzumaki eventually surrendered, and the Hoshigaki clan head was named the first Umikage of Shimagakure. Though tensions still run high between the clans, there haven't been any violent incidents. Shimagakure is the only hidden village to boast a strong navy. Many of their ninja know how to sail, and they have a specific division dedicated to patrolling the waters to control trade and discourage piracy. Player Character Kages: N/A

Canyon Country Capital: Ganpeki no Sato Population: 57,000 Locations of Interest: - Ganpeki no Sato: The capital of Canyon Country, Ganpeki no Sato is built almost entirely out of sandstone on a rocky flatland. Located at the southernmost tip of the island, most of its income comes from exporting valuable minerals. The home of both the Dhulo Cela and the Halkai Cela. The smallest capital of every country by far, with a population of roughly 12,500.
- Kitaichi: The largest city in Canyon Country, located on the mainland. It also happens to be the largest port towards the north of the continent by population, which measures in at around 39,000. Many frontiersman come here to resupply before travelling back up north to the bitter cold.
- Yuurei no Kuni: The Land of Ghosts, as is titled by the locals, makes up the majority of the island. It is a dry, frozen wasteland that is frequently braved by explorers in hopes of finding precious metals or minerals. Despite having a large area, only about 4,000 people actually live there in total, giving it the lowest population density across the entire continent.
History & Culture: Canyon Country is the least populated country across the entire Elemental Nations. Its entire population isn't even the size of other nations' large cities, and as a result it relies much upon both Chusekigakure and Shimagakure to protect it in the case of invasion. They currently share the northern island with Ice Country, having sold a small chunk of it to their neighbors. Ganpeki no Sato, the nation's capital, was founded about a hundred years ago by Ganmaru Fujiwara, the second cousin of the current Iron City shogun at the time. The reasons why he departed are largely unknown- some seem convinced that he had a disagreement with the shogun and was exiled quietly. Others seem to think that he was motivated by rumors of wealth. Whatever the reason was, the man was made Daimyo of a wasteland, and sent to make it habitable. The main island, until then, had mainly been occupied by a small order of monks, known as the Dhulo Cela, and a few pioneers, the number of both not even reaching quadruple digits. With the help of the monks' earth release, he was able to build a small settlement out of the surrounding sandstone. It stayed relatively small until precious minerals were found in some of the surrounding rivers. The resulting rush of people from Kitaichi, the current regional capital, meant that several ports had to be built, supplies had to be ordered, and the town had to be expanded. The population grew rapidly until it was about three quarters of the size it is in modern times. About twenty years since his arrival, a small splinter cell of monks from the Dhulo Cela formed the Halkai Cela. This religious divide, strangely enough to most, happened relatively peacefully, with both groups agreeing to keep largely to themselves. There were many reasons for the split, most of which were derived from the newcomers to the main island- the Dhulo Cela believed that enlightenment had to be earned through a strict lifestyle, while the Halkai Cela believed that the path of salvation was one anybody could walk. The Halkai Cela, due to this more open mindset, quickly grew in power and influence until their monastery's religious authority was almost as strong as the Daimyo's central government. About two years after this occured, Ganmaru Fujiwara died, and his son, Ganmura, took over as Daimyo. Ganmura was a proud disciple of the Dhulo Cela, and through his work quickly made something of a peacekeeping force throughout the region. It is most likely due to this that Canyon Country did not develop its own shinobi force. Regional dishes include fried egg, bear steaks, and swordfish. Notable holidays occur on the spring and autumn equinox, in which elaborate mandalas made of colored sand are spread across entire streets to be used in meditation, only to be completely destroyed after one use. The current Daimyo is Gankuro Fujiwara, a younger man of Shimura ancestry whose brain is a lot sharper than his tongue. Climate: Canyon Country possesses a continental subarctic climate. The average yearly temperature on the main island is -5 degrees Celsius throughout the spring, summer, and autumn months, while the winter averages at -26 degrees Celsius. The mainland is about ten degrees warmer at all times. Overall, the country receives between 25 centimeters of precipitation to 45 centimeters of precipitation annually. A thick layer of permafrost coats the northernmost parts of both the mainland and the island.
