Clan Symbol:
Clan Name: Inuzuka
Clan History:
The Inuzuka Clan is one of the continent’s youngest. Originating on Hoeru, a large island in the southern Sea Country, the Inuzuka have from the beginning been a clan of scrappy misfits. The clan is just under a century old, originating from a number of families on Hoeru uniting to protect their island as the nobles of the Sea Country lost control of the region. The Sea Country’s older ninja clans jockeyed for control of the rest of the country while still under the nominal rule of the daimyō for decades, until in 671 the Hoshigaki clan managed to install a puppet ruler in the Sea Country’s court. Now with full legal authority, the Hoshigaki began a campaign of domination - other clans either flocked under their wings, were recruited by force, or were driven out.
Hoeru has been famous for generations for its dogs, the dogs bred by the families on the island famous for their loyalty, intelligence, and strength. The Inuzuka made this their strongest asset, absorbing many of those families and developing tandem ninjutsu with the dogs. They were startled to find the depths of the dogs’ intelligence after unlocking their latent potential to mould chakra, and the exact limits of the Inuzuka’s canine companions were kept a close secret. When the Hoshigaki installed one of their own as the new Lord of Hoeru, the Inuzuka objected passionately, and they were met with ruthless reprisal. The Hoshigaki found the Inuzuka to be far less useful an asset than the other, more established clans of the Sea Country, and felt it no big loss to murder the leaders of the clan and burn or steal the scrolls containing their secret techniques. Every survivor was exiled, scattered to the winds of distant shores and lonely islands.
Many of the humans gave up, resigned to lives without their home or their clans. The dogs’ resolves proved stronger, and they rallied around Tashokumaru, the canine companion of the clan’s late leader. The dogs gathered what humans they could and set out for the Reed Country, following stories of a clan that offered shelter to any creature big or small - the Nara. The surviving Inuzuka arrived in Numachigakure much to the surprise of the village’s security, who had invested quite a lot of effort into making the village ‘unfindable’. The Inuzuka’s noses disproved that notion. The dogs’ hope of unconditional acceptance proved a touch naive, but after some discussion the village of Numachigakure found the clans’ values very much in touch with their own, and the Inuzuka’s intimate knowledge of the clans of the Sea Country potentially highly useful.
The remaining Inuzuka were a sorry bunch, and they quickly set about bolstering their numbers. The Inuzuka are known for having large, boisterous families, unique among many clans in their eagerness to adopt children from outside of the clan who have been orphaned by battle or other circumstances. They quickly distinguished themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the areas of tracking and taijutsu, though most would describe their style as far less… ‘refined’ than other famous Taijutsu clans. The secret techniques of the clan were rebuilt from the memories’ of Tashokumaru and the other surviving dogs, which lead to many setbacks but also in many ways even better communication between the human and canine members of the clan.
In the years leading up to 698, tensions began to build to a boil between the Reed and Sea Countries. The clans of the Sea Country, well versed in shady dealings, were taking every opportunity to strangle the life out of the Reed Country’s economy through both conventional means and through more covert shinobi operations. The Sea Country was also making territorial threats towards the archipelago to its south. Near every unfriendly meeting between shinobi from Shima and Numachi had an Inuzuka involved, chomping at the bit to get at Shima’s collective throats. The skirmishes leading up to war were no different. When the Reed-Sea War erupted, the Inuzuka fought hard, but they saw little reward for their efforts - when the war was lost they returned home with the new reputation of ‘impulsive warmongers’. Despite this smear on their record, the Inuzuka enjoy similar prestige to the other (much older) clans of Numachigakure today.
Clan Traits:
-Man's Best Friend: At the age of eight, each Inuzuka is introduced to a puppy to act as their canine companion. These dogs are robust and well-bred ninken, quickly catching up to their partners in ability.
Ninken companions are constructed using the following template, and are posted for approval alongside the character upon creation underneath the ‘Man’s Best Friend’ trait. They start with the same stat total as their partners, and train stats at the same rate.
The dog’s specialty is always treated as ‘Cooperation Ninjutsu’, as they can only use above C-rank techniques in tandem with others. They do not have their own chakra natures.
-Canine Senses: By spending 1000 words in the presence of someone, an Inuzuka clan member and their canine companion can memorize their scent and track them to their exact location within 30 meters, and their general location within 1 kilometer. Additionally, they can detect the presence of anyone within 50 meters, but not their exact location- just that they are within that area.
-Wolfpack: This trait allows an Inuzuka to have an additional secondary specialty slot exclusively for Taijutsu that must be trained.
Clan Bloodline: --
Joining Requirements: Be born, adopted, or married in to the clan.
