Clan Name: Aburame
Clan History:
The Aburame have lived as hermit scientists for at least four centuries in the deep swamplands of the Reed Country. The clan for most of that period had an ignoble reputation in the other nations as strange quacks, sent for by the very sick and very rich when they have exhausted every other option. This reputation has largely been superseded by their work as shinobi as Numachigakure - now they are strange and very, very dangerous.
The extensive entomological notes of the Aburame show a history going back to at least the year 104, the clan being established as a network of families specializing in medicine in research long before showing their hand as shinobi. That potential came with the discovery of the kikaichū beetle centuries later during a protracted war between the Senju and several other clans deep in the swamps of the Reed Country. The beetle was as much of a terror as the Senju’s enemies, and the Aburame were quickly summoned to help deal with them. The Aburame quickly came up with protective measures… and made off with extensive, worrying numbers of live beetles. The peaceful and quirky Aburame soon after resurfaced in history as one of the most strange and deadly clans on the continent, members of the clan transforming themselves into living symbiotic hives with the beetles.
The Senju thought them insane, of course. Their effectiveness on the battlefield could not be denied, however, and the kikaichū proved to be very agreeable and flexible bugs for research and medicine delivery. This was their main motivator, after all - the bugs’ offensive use was well suited for self-defense, even better as a deterrent, but most prized as an avenue for research. The first few adopters of kikaichū hives were thought of as making noble sacrifices for science, but after several generations it became normal in the insular clan to be a bag of bugs.
Between the Aburame and the Nara, the Reed Country was for a long time considered one of the most internally stable countries. Several different concepts for a formal alliance had been bandied around, but none took hold until the Sun Country proved the concept of a ninja village with Sakyugakure. As soon as the news hit, the Senju and Aburame started their own plans - the Sun Country’s clans had only been kept in check by their rivalry with one another, and the Aburame feared being simply steamrolled by their combined might if the forests of the Reed Country would ever hold any economic interest. The daimyō considered the alliance of the clans a threat, and refused to fund the village - until rumours began swirling that the Uchiha and Kaguya were starting peace talks in the north, and he finally saw which way the winds were blowing.
The daimyō’s condition was that the Senju clan head not be appointed Ashikage, a position that he considered a threat to his sovereignty. He negotiated for the clans' communal choice of leader, so long as it wasn't a Senju - Hisako Aburame, an undisputed genius academically but largely untested in combat, ended up being the village's choice.
Under Hisako’s leadership, Numachigakure has become perhaps the most subtle of the hidden villages - often underestimated, as well. The Aburame maintain the village’s extensive intelligence network, as well as leading much of its medical research and the village’s hospital. Even in the village that they helped found, many in Numachi find them a little spooky… but they would not dare extend that judgement to the ‘Obabakage’. During the Reed-Sea war the Aburame were opposed to escalating the conflict, eventually dragged in along with the rest of the village when the Reed daimyō declared war. Rumors swirl that the Aburame have more powerful hidden techniques that the Ashikage refused to deploy during the war, a number in the village considering the village’s leader to have grown ‘even softer, and that’s saying something’ in her old age.
The Aburame largely dress in heavy and concealing clothing, and hide their eyes. They also tend to be highly reclusive and secretive. The core Aburame clan almost all have hives of various insects in their bodies, but there are a fair number of smaller offshoot branch families affiliated with the Aburame who have given up their hives or whose parents never had them infested to begin with for various reasons. These families generally go under different names, but are regarded fondly by the main clan.
Clan Traits:
-Living Host: Aburame clan members have a secondary stat called 'Bugs' equal to reserves that they cast Aburame hiden jutsu from, in addition to the chakra cost. Each bug is considered to have 1 stat in strength, speed, and durability, but when using Aburame insect jutsu, their stats are replaced by that of the jutsu. Aburame clan members start with 1 bug species (Kikaichu) with no additional abilities, but up to two more species can be apped and purchased as slotless skills with two abilities each. Up to 3 bugs can be recovered per post. The user instinctively knows the location and status of all of their own bugs within 3 meters, and can communicate with them telepathically in this range. If they leave this range to scout, they can travel up to 50 meters away unassisted by jutsu, but must return to the 3 meter range in order to report their findings.
-Entomology: The Aburame clan have been studying insects for generations, becoming unparalleled entomologists. If an insect based or inspired jutsu is used within vision range of an Aburame with this trait, they will be able to discern its power, durability, and maximum range at a glimpse.
-Swarm: When casting an insect based jutsu, a person with this trait can choose to enhance the base power, speed, or durability of that technique by one rank. Only one category can be boosted in this manner at a time. This ability can only be used once per thread.
