Clan History: The Hoshigaki clan is an old and very famous clan, their fearsome visages gripping the public imagination even outside of the ninja world. They claim descent from demons and sea monsters, caring little for the ‘evil’ of that reputation. Inside the Sea Country, their age, prestige, and wealth gives them a cultural dominance that laid the foundation for their recent military dominance after a brutal campaign to unify the Sea Country’s clans and nations under a single national banner. The first Umikage, Isamashii Hoshigaki, was the leader of this campaign, and is seen as something between a living legend and a saint by the current members of the clan.
In past years infamous as pirates and bandits, the southern Sea Country relied on the Hoshigaki to arbitrate disputes and uphold the law during an extended near-collapse of the country. Their power and influence has allowed them a very large amount of control over the recovered feudal government of the nation. They have leveraged this to establish themselves as the de facto leader of the Sea Country's clans, establishing control over the other clans' quasi-legal jurisdictions and establishing themselves as the guiding hand of Shimagakure.
The unification campaign began around year 671, when the Hoshigaki began to claim influence in the Sea Country's nobility by instating something of a puppet daimyo. Two years later, The Inuzuka were expelled from a Sea Country outlying island into Reed Country. In the year 675, both the Yamanaka to the North and the Hozuki to the East fell to the Hoshigaki alike, and the three clans laid siege upon the Uzumaki city of Onami to the West. Surrounded on all sides, they eventually surrendered. Within the year, the city was renamed Shimagakure and Isamashii was unanimously elected as its first leader.
They control the ninja city with a militaristic iron fist. However, there is something to be said to their benefit- they have brought almost unheard of peace and security to Sea Country post-unification. Their ascension is seen as both a good and a bad thing by the ninja clans under their banner, but none have dared openly rebel against them... yet.
Clan Traits:
-Terrors of the Sea: Hoshigaki weaponry techniques ignore half an opponent's durability.
-Hoshigaki Sword Style: Hoshigaki who take this trait can learn heavy weaponry techniques 1 rank higher than their specialization would normally allow. (SS-ranks if weaponry is secondary, S-ranks if weaponry is tertiary, and B-ranks if they do not take weaponry as a specialty) Additionally, they are treated as having the weaponry specialty when calculating the stats of heavy weapons only even if they have not taken it.
-Suiton Mastery: Hoshigaki who take this trait will learn all water elemental techniques at a 25% EXP discount, rounded down (I.E., a jutsu costs 10 exp to learn. 25% of 10 is 2.5, which is rounded to 2. The new total to learn this technique is 8). This does not stack with other learning discounts. Should other discounts be in effect, the higher one takes precedence.
Clan Bloodline: Demon Shark
